On the initiative and with the full financial support of the Bank of Abkhazia, in October 2019, the book “The History of Money Circulation in Abkhazia” was published. The authors of the book are Astamur Tania and Ibrahim Chkadua, the foreword was made by the doctor of historical sciences Sergey Shamba. The circulation of the publication is 500 copies.
The publication is a chronological description of money circulation in the territory of historical Abkhazia, starting from the VI century BC until the modern period. Separate chapters provide information on banknotes circulating on the territory of Abkhazia during the periods of Antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Ottoman and Russian Empires, during the Soviet period. Also, a separate chapter in the book is devoted to money circulation in the independent Republic of Abkhazia and the issuing activities of the Bank of Abkhazia. The book allows the reader to formulate a general picture of the circulation of money in the territory of Abkhazia. It is designed to arouse interest in the history of money as an important segment of the past and present and to popularize numismatics and bonistics of Abkhazia.
