Issuance of a commemorative banknote with a face value of 25 Apsars

The National Bank of the Republic of Abkhazia announces the issuance of commemorative banknote of 25 apsars, dedicated to the thirtieth anniversary of the Victory in the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia.

In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Abkhazia from 21.04.2008, no. 2012-с-IV “On the introduction into circulation on the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia of commemorative and investment coins and commemorative banknotes”, commemorative banknotes are a currency made on the basis of paper, special types of plastic or their combination.

The banknotes issued in circulation are a means of payment at their face value, and they have a firm equivalent in Russian rubles: 1 apsar is equal to 10 rubles of the Russian Federation. However, the banknotes may not be used as a means of payment in the retail system.

The main image of the front side of the banknote is a soaring eagle and its image in profile, seven stars from the state flag of the Republic of Abkhazia are located on top in a semicircle. A sailboat is shown in the background on the left. The images are imposed on the traditional Abkhazian ornament. In the lower left corner is the state emblem. In the upper left corner, the denomination “25 ԥsar” is indicated in two vertical lines.

The main image of the reverse side of the banknote is the Abkhaz warriors. The background of the composition is a traditional Abkhazian ornament. On the reverse side, the image of seven stars is duplicated, as well as the name of the denomination in the right corner - “25 ԥsar”.


The banknote has two serial numbers located on the reverse side of the banknote and having a two-letter series designation and nine digits of the number. The left number has readability on the long side of the banknote, the right one - on the short side.

In the lower right part of the reverse side of the banknote there is a QR code containing a link to the page of the Bank of Abkhazia website with a description of the security features of the banknote.

The security features of the banknote include a common watermark and two types of protective fibres, a colour-shifting security element “HMC” (“hidden multi-colour”), the Orlov effect in offset and metallographic printing, graphic guilloche elements and elements of copy protection.

The banknote is executed in green-beige, made on white cotton paper.
